My paintings have always been an expression of my love of landscape and the wilder elements of our own relating to the land; since I can remember, I have been deeply influenced by the mythology and symbolism of San rock art, especially ancient rock engravings found across remote desert landscapes in the Northern Cape and Namibia. There was a time when I painted regularly and even undertook commissions – including a rather nice experience with a series of paintings for the South African parliament – but those days are in the past. The selection of paintings above was painted in 2022 in our Cotswolds cottage and for my own enjoyment of painting, now stored in our garage in Tetbury – and no doubt a response to living so far away from the landscapes that were once my deepest inspiration...
